Alana James got more out of organising her wedding than just a perfect day.

Events of Elegance, the event hire company Alana owns and operates with business partner Tracy Drinkwater, was launched more than two years ago and is proving so successful, they both soon hope to give up their profession as radiographers.

They now not only cater for weddings but also for corporate functions and dinner awards nights.

The company won the wedding hire category last year in the Regional Annual Bridal Industry Awards for Excellence and Mrs James is now a finalist in the Telstra Business Women's Awards in the under 30s category.

Mrs James, of Charlestown, was nominated by her business partner Ms Drinkwater.

"Because she's a really great business partner and because her achievements so far have been amazing," Ms Drinkwater said.

"She already has a university degree and now she has a successful business."

Mrs James believes their success was due in part to the fact they were particular with their stock but also because they wanted to succeed and were enthusiastic.

"We choose something by deciding whether we would have it at our own wedding," she said.
